Every year it comes a night, a night that by some is welcomed and by some is judged. It is the night of Halloween.

According to Wikipedia, the word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word "Hallowe'en" means "hallowed evening" or "holy evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day). In Scots, the word "eve" is even, and this is contracted to e'en or een. Over time, (All) Hallow(s) E(v)en evolved into Hallowe'en. Although the phrase "All Hallows'" is found in Old English "All Hallows' Eve" is itself not seen until 1556.

This is the etymological origin for the name, however it is not certain the real origin of this tradition. Some say is originating from ancient Celtic culture, other say it began solely as a Christian holiday.

For me it is funny this debate - weather it is a pagan celebration or a Christian celebration. In any way you look at it, it is about acknowledging the shadow, about accepting the shadow and our fears in order to overcome them. And of course it is about about overcoming polarity, acknowledging there is no good or bad, dark and light. It is only a matter of perception. Even our shadow part all it wants is love. In my opinion Halloween is about this, about giving some love to our shadow part.

So yes, we dress up, disguise in vampires, ghosts and witches, we do pranks and scare each other.. Why? Because there is nothing to fear. We just need to give love to the shadow and the shadow is no more. It becomes our good friend. That is why you say "Trick or Treat?".

It is also about innocence, about becoming children again, about feeding the child inside of us, that wants to play and that does not see things in black and white, good or evil. It just sees colors, happiness, reasons for play and it plays with everything and everyone, it does not discriminate.

So put on your witch hat, or take on a sheet and play a ghost, bring your vampire fangs out or just put on a super hero or a sweet cartoon character outfit. Play around and let your inner child enjoy the feeling.

No, you are not inviting any evil spirits by celebrating this, you are just saying there is no good or evil, we are all one, we are all the same!
