There are many studies and many people who affirm that visualizations helps you achieve your objectives.
I believe visualization and contemplation also help in improving health and to boost the immune system.
Visualizing yourself in a good health state, keeping that image in your mind and letting the emotion flood you as if it was real will make your mind and mental system work towards making that image real.
Your brain controls all the other functions of your body, sending them signals of what to do, how to operate. By just practicing visualization and seeing yourself having a healthy life, you will notice suddenly how your choices of what to eat, what to drink will change. You will suddenly stop eating foods that you know are not good and you couldn’t find the strength to say NO to.
You will start drinking the amount of water you need without forcing yourself and keeping count. You will quit smoking or drinking in one day as if you have never smoked/drank one day in your life, without struggle or very little, just because your brain changed, your mindset changed, the habit was erased, released.
There are many visualization/contemplation practices out there.
Here are a few I love doing:
Writing: Write in words how you would like your health to improve, write about adopting a healthy practice. Avoid using negative phrases or words and when you want to release/erase a negative habit just leave it out, omit any name, any description and just describe something healthy you would replace it with.
Visual meditation: This practice works together with the meditation and breathing practices. Once you are in a meditative state and quieted down all thoughts, choose as point of visualization your improved health, immune system. See yourself clearly in your mind and let the feeling and emotions overcome you. Of course, doing just this will not be enough. However, this practice will help you take the right actions and putting the right emotions into achieving what is needed.
Contemplation/Day dreaming: This is similar to visual meditation, only that the contemplation happens with your eyes wide open, even while doing other activities. This can be controlled and best used once you have a trained meditative mind and are able to filter and pause thoughts with ease while still remaining present. Be aware of this and develop it.
Photography/Painting/Designing activities: This is a very practical one. It does not per say directly help to improve health, but it is a good practice to help you expand and develop your visualizing/contemplating ability. Photography definitely helps in framing thoughts, situations. Painting is a very good practice for materializing thoughts/ideas/visions. Designing activities help you in abstraction and holistic thinking. Be creative with your photos, start painting even if you draw two lines, do some redecorations or designing and pay attention to the message/feeling/emotion being delivered. Look at it objectively, detached. It might notice sometimes difficult messages/feelings/emotions to grasp, to understand as they could show pain, insecurity, shame, guilt. Take them as lessons, transform them. Try to always make your message be positive.
Be creative! Work and play in a positive healthy, peaceful, responsible manner!
Here are also some mandalas to help your visualization:
